Counting the Days

For the past few weeks (or months), I have been reading a book by Eckhart Tolle called The Power of Now. So far, the main takeaway I have from his book is that happiness can only be achieved if we focus on the NOW. Not the future. Not the past.

The book is a little hard to read, because it is not a structured book, but rather a series of questions and the authors' answers to them. I find it a bit of a bore sometimes, because he repeats ideas and explanations. But I gather that it's for effect.

Anyway, the reason I mentioned the book is that I know I have to concentrate on the NOW, but due to my impending move to Barcelona, my un-trained brain, more often than not, wanders into the future to my life at IESE. It's okay, I suppose, but because of it, I become daydream-y most of the time. This is not good, especially because it does not get me in the mood for working when I should be. All I can think about is that I am going to quit soon and that I'm not really chasing a promotion or a raise.

Why not quit now? I'm really thinking about it, but financially, it's going to be really hard.

So, to change the topic and focus on the NOW, these are my tasks at hand before August rolls around.
  1. Learn Spanish - I am starting this tomorrow with my first class.
  2. Take a course on Excel - Very important for the MBA, I was told.
  3. Learn more about the Financial world - Being a technical person and taking a technical course didn't really prepare me for the career that I will probably face when I start my MBA. Being the planner that I am, I should start reading up.
Hey, it feels good that I am actually trying to do something now.

Breathe in, breathe out.
